Family Sponsorship
Canada provides sponsorship programs for its permanent residents and citizens seeking to reunite with their loved ones in the country. These initiatives assist certain family members in gaining permanent residency in Canada, with expedited processing times designed to streamline the process of family reunification.
Spouse, Common-law, or Conjugal Partner
You can sponsor your spouse, common-law, or conjugal partner for Canadian permanent residence, whether they're in Canada on a valid temporary visa or abroad. Those in Canada may also qualify for a spousal open work permit, allowing them to work during the sponsorship application process. Common-law partners living together for at least one year are eligible for spousal sponsorship, acknowledging their relationship.
Parent or Grandparent
Canada promotes family reunification for parents and grandparents of citizens and permanent residents through the sponsorship program. Sponsors must show financial capability by meeting the Minimum Necessary Income (MNI) for their family size and commit to providing support. Those unable to offer permanent support may explore the Super Visa, which offers long-term, multiple-entry access for parents and grandparents.
Child or Other Dependant
When applying for permanent residence in Canada, you have the option to include your children as dependents. Alternatively, the child sponsorship program permits Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor unmarried, childless children under 22 for permanent residence. Individuals over 22 may be eligible as dependents if they have a disabling condition.
